FOUNDER

Juliette Grimmett, MPH, has over 24 years of professional experience creating and implementing gender-based violence prevention and response programs for colleges and universities, schools, and the community. She previously worked on several college campuses, including the University of South Carolina, UNC-Chapel Hill, and most recently NC State University, where she served as the Assistant Director of the Women’s Center. Some of Juliette’s most recent work includes serving as the Consulting Producer of the documentary film MY MASCULINITY HELPS, as the CORE Constructs Consulting Developer for NASPA’s Culture of Respect, and as the co-PI for a research study on sexual violence prevention and response programs on women’s campuses. Additionally, she and her partner Marc, were the lead sexual violence prevention trainers for NC State University athletes and their coaches and medical/academic staff from Fall 2017- Fall 2018. In addition to consulting, she serves as the Sexual Assault Victim Policy Strategist for the NC Department of Justice as part of the DOJ-funded Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) grant.  She currently serves as an invited member of the North Carolina Sexual Violence Prevention Advisory Council through the Department of Health & Human Services and the North Carolina Coalition Against Sexual Assault; the CDC funded leadership team out of the North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence; and on the Board of Volunteers for St. Mary’s School where she provides over 25 trainings per year to all 9-12th graders as well as faculty and staff. Juliette is also a survivor of campus rape. In 2015, her story was featured in MORE Magazine, as well as on an episode of the Steve Harvey Show. Juliette holds a Master in Public Health degree in Health Behavior and Health Education from UNC-CH, Gillings School of Global Public Health, grew up in Newton, MA and France, LOVES the Boston Red Sox (2018 World Series Champs!!), and most of all, spending time with her children Harper (10), and Sky (7) and her husband, Marc, who teaches her to always lead with love.

LEAD CONSULTANT

Marc A. Grimmett, Ph.D., was born and has his proud identity cultivated in historic, Tuskegee, Alabama. He is a licensed psychologist, associate professor, coordinator for clinical mental health counseling, and founder and co-director of the Community Counseling, Education, and Research Center (CCERC) of the counselor education program at North Carolina State University. The conceptual framework for his research agenda is titled RADICAL scholarship, which means Research Action to Deconstruct Institutionalized Cultures and Advocate for Liberation. This framework currently includes four areas of concentration, which are: preventing gender-based violence through education, activism, male engagement, transformative masculinity, and community partnerships; facilitating access to preventive community mental health counseling services; transforming contextual and systemic factors to promote the healthy development of African American people in general, and males in particular; and developing teaching and research methods in social justice counselor education and engagement scholarship. Dr. Grimmett is the executive producer, co-director, and co-writer of MY MASCULINITY HELPS, an educational documentary that explores the role of African American men and boys in the prevention of sexual violence. He has over 20 years of professional mental health experience working in different settings including university counseling, community mental health, and substance abuse treatment centers, as well as in-home counseling services and private practice.
